SoftPlan has made it very easy to add new opening styles to the opening library. This feature helps assure that your drawings accurately reflect the imagination of your design. Follow the steps below to create any new custom opening from a line drawing:

1) Go to File>Library>Opening>Add item
2) Draw a left-mouse/right-mouse box around the item
3) Change to the appropriate library
4) Type in the name of your new opening type
5) Click on "OK". The line drawing should now turn into a symbol (changes color on the screen)
6) You are now ready to use your new opening type in your plans and elevations.

If you use different sized openings of the same type, be sure to draw each one as a separate symbol, as SoftPlan doesn't keep the original proportions of your symbol when you stretch it.

Don't forget to "turn on" your new opening types in SoftList material list.

If you would like to have me email you an .spd drawing of the 4-panel and 8-panel overhead garage doors that accompany this article, contact me at acsart@powerweb.net.
