Site Access

Q: When I try to access certain areas in the site, I am asked for a username and password. Why?
A: Many areas of SPLASH are restricted to SPLASH members only. When you join SPLASH you choose a username and password that will allow you to gain access to those areas of SPLASH. Registration is free and only takes a few moments of your time. To register please follow this link Registration Page. Currently, the following areas are restricted to members only:
  • Forum. SoftPlan-related discussion forum where users exchange timesaving tips and techniques, and assist each other with learning everything there is know about SoftPlan.
  • Tips & Tricks. Collections of articles on SoftPlan or related topics written by SPLASH members. Many article contain step by step instructions to guide you through advanced techniques, and wise advice from expert users.
  • Boneyard. A large repository of SoftPlan-related files to increase your productivity. This area is full of exciting new symbols, beautiful backgrounds, 3D textures, etc.
Q: I can't login to the member's areas of SPLASH. What's wrong?
A: There are several possible problems that may be responsible:
  1. Wrong Username and/or Password. There are two separate usernames and passwords employed on the SPLASH website. The first is your site-wide username and password that you choose when you join SPLASH. The second is for the SPLASH forum. Please ensure that you are using the correct username and password. You enter the site-wide password when you attempt to enter a member's only area such as the forum or the boneyard and are prompted by a dialog.
  2. Incorrect Case. Both the username and password are case-sensitive. That means that PassWord is not the same as password. Please be sure to enter your username and password EXACTLY as you entered it when you first chose it.
The site-wide login dialog (in Internet Explorer) is shown in Fig. 1.

Q: I can't get into a member's area, and I am never asked for my username or password. Why am I not prompted to login?
A: Internet Explorer users may not be asked to login if their Internet Security Settings are not properly configured. Please do the following:
  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options....
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select the Internet icon, and click the Custom Level... button.
  5. In the Security Settings dialog, scroll through the Settings list to find the Logon setting under the User Authentication heading.
  6. Ensure that it is NOT set to Anonymous logon. A good choice would be Automatic logon only in Intranet zone.
  7. Click the OK button on the Security Settings dialog and the Internet Options dialog to save your changes.

Q: I used to have an account on SPLASH, but when I try to renew it doesn't find it.
A: There are several possible explanations:
  1. Account No Longer Exists. If a SPLASH members account has been expired for more than three months, then it will be automatically removed from the system. Once this happens, you need to sign up as a new user. You should be able to use the same username as before provided no one has taken it in the meantime.
  3. Incorrect Case. Both the username and password are case-sensitive. That means that PassWord is not the same as password. Please be sure to enter your username and password EXACTLY as you entered it when you first chose it.
Q: When I try to sign up, I get an error message.
A: Depending on the type of error, there are several different answers. To determine what kind of error has occurred, you need to read the entire error message. They are often self-explanatory, and usually require retrying (clicking on Back, and re-submitting) and perhaps using different data.
